Coventry Carol

Arranged by Richard Hubbard

SATB Choir, Tenor Drum and Harpsichord

Cat. No. 1135

Traditionally the Coventry Carol is sung as a gentle lullaby, yet the text is about Herod's slaughter of innocent children in his anger at the birth of Christ. This arrangement aims to bring out the stark contrasts of the text by setting the tune as a brisk Medieval dance, capturing both the bitterness and hatred of Herod and the mourning of those who witnessed the atrocity.

The accompaniment may be played using a harpsichord sample on a digital keyboard, and the Tenor Drum part may be played on any suitable drum, such as a Tom-tom or Djembe.

Prices for printed music include UK postage and packing.
